GrandCentral - Unfied Messaging Done Right?
I’ve had a Grand Central number for a couple years. I got an early Beta invite (don’t remember how). I played with it, but could never switch over to to GC as my only phone number. There were two major flaws.
- SMS support - If I gave out my Grand Central number as my main/only number, it wouldn’t accept SMS. Looks like Google Voice has solved this. Yeah! (This is no smal feat, and would require major technical chops and cooperation from the wireless carriers)
- Caller ID - If I want my GC/GV number to me my number, I want that to be my outgoing caller ID number. But if I dial out from my mobile, how do I do that? GV might have solved this by enabling me to dial contacts thru the GV service. We’ll see.
Two days after the announcement, I still haven’t gotten my upgrade from GC to GV, but I hope and expect that it’ll happen this weekend.
